There are a number of reasons why parents today want to kill their unborn child and this desire to kill one’s own child is not a new situation. Since mankind fell into sin, the murder of infants has been practiced again and again.

In the Old Testament parents murdered children to serve false gods and supposedly obtain blessing. For example, we read in 2 Kings: ‘When the king of Moab saw that the battle had gone against him, he took with him seven hundred swordsmen to break through to the king of Edom, but they failed. Then he took his firstborn son, who was to succeed him as king, and offered him as a sacrifice on the city wall.’ (2 Kings 3:26-1)

Even the Israelites practised such despicable worship, led by kings like Ahaz who ‘sacrificed his sons in the fire, following the detestable ways of the nations the LORD had driven out before the Israelites’ (2 Chronicles 28:3).

But God never condoned or blessed the killing of infants. In the law of Moses God said: ‘Do not give any of your children to be sacrificed to Molech, for you must not profane the name of your God. I am the LORD’ (Leviticus 18:21). And if that wasn’t enough, God sends his prophets like Isaiah, Jeremiah and Ezekiel to condemn such false worship with words such as these: ‘And you took your sons and daughters whom you bore to me and sacrificed them as food to the idols. Was your prostitution not enough? You slaughtered my children and sacrificed them to the idols’ (Ezekiel 16:20-21).

Sadly, the murder of infants still happens today for similar reasons. Children may not be aborted to serve pagan gods. But the reasoning for aborting an infant is always performed for sinful motivations that are connected with human pride and a desire for pleasure at the expense of obeying God’s law.

Prayer

Heavenly father, we praise you as the God of justice who has always condemned the murder of other humans. We confess that far too often we have murdered others in our hearts because of our pride and desire for pleasure. But we thank you for sending your son to willingly die in our place so that we who believe can be forgiven. Help us along with our nation to put to death the pride in our hearts so that we respect the life of all, including the unborn. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.

Prayer Points:

A great awakening in Australia of the need for personal relationship with Jesus our Lord the only one by which we can be saved! An awareness of our desperate need for the living water of Holy Spirit to quench this thirsty nation, only he can satisfy! A deep repentance and freedom to result as His Truth is revealed to hearts about the barbaric practise of aborting our next generations.
We repent and grieve today over the decision of the WA Upper House who voted 23 to 9 to not give treatment to Australian babies born alive from failed abortions. Ask the Lord for truth to convict our nation and her leaders to turn from our wicked ways. Pray that every life be treated with value and dignity and that we do whatever we can for the least of these as if we were doing it for Jesus.

We pray for every state and territory of Australia to come together to stand for life! Pray for every Territory and State in our Nation to join in and hold rallies and walks for life in their cities.

These current Pro-Life Issues before Parliaments:

Pray that abortion will not increase in Australia. The ACT Government has announced it will provide free abortions from mid 2023. As Medicare sadly already cover the costs for all Australian women having abortions this is likely to be for overseas students, those on work visas and those here on holiday having abortions paid from Australian taxes. This is currently being debated in the Upper House in Western Australia - their Abortion Legislation Reform Bill 2023 has been labelled by some as the most radical abortion law in the world. Pray they include the 4 clauses from the South Australian Termination of Pregnancy Act 2021.

Pray that The Human Rights (Children Born Alive Protection) Bill 2022 be passed speedily in 2023. This Bill will protect babies who are currently, in most States of Australia, being left to die after a failed abortion. This protection for such babies is currently law in NSW (2019) and SA (2021) as amendments to the state Termination of Pregnancy Acts. This Federal Bill, if passed, will make this legislation National. Pray for protection for the three Federal Senators Alex Antic (Liberal Party) Matthew Canavan (National Party) and Ralph Babet (United Australia Party) who presented this Bill 30/11/2022.
